Those members and guests who are coming from the east can ride either the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited or Capitol Limited to Toledo from where Amtrak runs a connecting bus to Dearborn. Shortcutting Across Canada:

For those members and guests who are coming from New York, eastern Pennsylvania, and the Northeast and who may want to shortcut across Canada from Buffalo/Niagara Falls to Detroit, please be aware that as of June 1, 2009, each person must have a valid  Passport, Passport Card, enhanced drivers license, or a NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST Trusted Traveler Program Card to re-enter the United States. No proper documentation, no re-entry!

For more information about the documentation requirements, please visit the U.S. Customs and Border Inspection web site.

You may encounter considerable U.S. Customs and Immigration delays at the border crossing points at Detroit/Windsor, Port Huron/Sarnia, Buffalo/Fort Erie. and Niagara Falls N.Y./Ontario, and should expect delays on the Ambassador Bridge and I-75 at Detroit.

Please be aware that if you have a "dirty" driving record in the U.S. (i.e.: moving violations or a d.u.i., in the past 4 years) you very likely will be denied entrance into Canada. Canadian Customs and the Ontario Provincial Police have instant access to U.S. driving records, and they strictly enforce the ban on "bad" drivers. If you are in this category, please  take I-90/I-80 west to Toledo, I-280 north from Toledo to I-75, and I-75 north to Dearborn to avoid problems at the border.

Please also be aware that if you have a "concealed carry" permit for firearms in your home state, you may encounter large problems at the Canadian Customs posts because Canada does not recognize these permits. Leaving your firearms at home could help to make things a little easier at the border crossing; however, we wanted to make you aware of this situation.

Heads Up!

The state police, county sheriffs, and local police in Michigan all use unmarked cruisers -- and the state police again are using motorcycle "wolf packs" on the Interstates. Police cars and motorcycles will show up anyplace at any time. Please be on your best diving behavior while in Michigan so that your trip to our Annual Meeting will not include an unwelcome visit to some local court.
